Orlando is home to two of the greatest theme park destinations on earth — and choosing between them is one of the most common questions we get from clients. The good news: there's no wrong answer. The better news: with the right planning, you can do both.

Here's our honest breakdown of Universal Orlando vs Disney World to help you decide where to spend your vacation days (and dollars).

The Scale Difference

Disney World is massive — four theme parks, two water parks, Disney Springs, and over 30 resort hotels spread across 40 square miles. You could spend two full weeks and still not see everything.

Universal Orlando is more compact — two main parks (Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure), the newer Epic Universe opening in 2025, and CityWalk. It's easier to "complete" in 3–4 days, which makes it a great add-on to a Disney trip or a standalone long weekend.

The Rides

Universal wins on thrill rides. If your group loves roller coasters and high-intensity attractions, Universal delivers. The Velocicoaster, Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, and the Jurassic World ride are world-class. Epic Universe is adding even more.

Disney wins on immersive storytelling. Disney's rides are experiences — Avatar Flight of Passage, Rise of the Resistance, Tron Lightcycle Run. They're not always the fastest or tallest, but the theming and emotional payoff are unmatched.

The Magic Factor

Disney has a unique ability to make you feel like a kid again regardless of your age. The attention to detail, the character interactions, the music playing as you walk through the parks — it adds up to something that's genuinely hard to describe until you've felt it.

Universal is fun, exciting, and incredibly well-themed (especially the Wizarding World of Harry Potter), but it leans more toward entertainment than emotional magic.

Cost Comparison

Both parks are expensive, but Disney tends to run higher overall — especially when you factor in resort hotels, dining, and Lightning Lane purchases. Universal's Express Pass (skip-the-line access) is included free with select hotel stays, which is a significant value advantage.

A 4-day Universal trip for a family of four will typically run less than a comparable Disney trip.

Best For...

Choose Disney World if: You have young children (under 10), you're a Disney fan, you want a fully immersive resort experience, or this is a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Choose Universal Orlando if: Your kids are older (10+), you love Harry Potter, you want thrilling coasters, or you're looking for a shorter/more affordable trip.

Do both if: You have 7–10 days in Orlando and want the full experience. Many of our clients split their trip — 4–5 days at Disney, 2–3 days at Universal.
